For the Sloots family in Heerhugowaard, this storage loft project was about making better use of the attic. Their son wanted to sleep in the attic and his father Frank wanted a hobby room. An attic is often a storage space nobody really uses. In this house there were two wishes: a bedroom for the son and a hobby room for his father. The attic now has two rooms with a storage loft above. A storage loft is the space above the attic, right under the ridge. It is often too low to stand in, but well suited to storage. With a floor and a hatch it becomes a handy place to store things.
For dividing up space inside the house, an environmental permit is usually not required. If you change the load bearing structure or the exterior, such as roof windows at the front, things may be different. Check with the municipality or through the Omgevingsloket.
