BeforeAfter
Home insulation is more important than ever, with rising energy costs and new national targets. Bouwbedrijf R. Vlieland believes it really is time to start insulating more. A well-insulated home is warmer in winter, stays cooler in summer and needs less energy.
We insulate roofs, attics, floors and walls, on their own or as part of alterations. Especially when building work is going on anyway, insulation is often easy to include. Sustainable building is not an afterthought for us, as you can read on our page sustainable building.

Heat that leaks out through the roof, floor or walls is something you pay for again every month. Good insulation keeps that heat inside. You notice it in your energy bill and in comfort: fewer draughts, fewer cold floors and a more even temperature throughout the house.
The government is also working towards homes that use less energy. A well-insulated house is ready for that, and it is the basis if you later consider a heat pump, for example.
Warm air rises, so a lot of heat escapes through an uninsulated roof. Roof insulation on the inside, between or below the purlins, is often feasible without opening the roof from outside. If the attic is also becoming a room, we include the insulation straight away. Read more in insulating an attic and attic and storage loft.
You feel a cold ground floor in your feet. With a crawl space, the floor can usually be insulated from below. Walls are often insulated during a renovation or alterations, when they are open anyway. And old frames with single or early double glazing let a lot of heat through, so new frames with insulating glass make a big difference.
If you are building an extension or roof extension, new-build requirements usually apply and the new space is well insulated as a matter of course. Also read insulating an extension.
The reduced 9% VAT rate applies to the labour costs of insulation work in a home more than two years old. Materials fall under 21%. If in doubt, check. More explanation in alterations and VAT.
Subsidies are often available for insulation too, such as the government's ISDE scheme. The conditions change regularly, so check the current rules on the RVO website before you start.
A well-insulated house is also more airtight. That is fine, as long as enough fresh air comes in. With every insulation job we therefore pay attention to ventilation and a proper vapour control layer, so no moisture is left in the structure. More tips in sustainable renovation and insulation.

Usually with the roof, because that is where most heat is lost. The floor, window frames and walls often follow. We are happy to look at where the biggest gains are in your home.

A well-insulated house is more airtight, which is why ventilation matters. When insulating we make sure there is enough ventilation and a proper vapour control layer, so no moisture is trapped.
