For this client we built a high-quality dormer, transforming a previously cramped attic into a spacious, full extra living area. Dormer installation gives you headroom, daylight and usable floor space. Below, the photos show how this project went, from the opened-up roof to the finished dormer.
Under a sloping roof there is often little room to stand upright. That was the case here too: the attic was cramped and hardly usable as a room. A dormer raises part of the roof straight up, adding headroom and daylight in one go.
Whether a dormer needs a permit depends on its position on the roof, its size and the municipality's environmental plan. Always check via the Omgevingsloket, or read building without a permit.
The photos show the steps. Inside, the roof boarding was opened up and the structure temporarily propped, with the insulation material ready. Outside, scaffolding stood against the rear wall. Then the timber frame of the dormer went onto the roof, and finally the finishing with cladding and a wide row of windows.
The attic is now a spacious room with plenty of daylight and headroom. A space like this can become a bedroom, a workspace or a hobby room.
